It's the new year - so here's some tips to help you meet it head on

As the saying (which is true) goes, out with the old and in with the new! And there is no better time to do it at the beginning of the year (although we really should be doing this regularly throughout the year too.) Here's three techniques I have used to help me get into the mindset for the new year.

Smudging

Right before I headed off to stay with my parents, I smudged my entire apartment for the first time. When I first moved into the place, my parents had the apartment blessed by the priest, but I hadn't done anything since then. The reason I did it was because I had noticed that when I opened the door to my apartment, the "air" or "energy" of the place felt incredibly heavy and dense. No matter what I did (i.e. opening up all doors/windows to my apartment to let the fresh air in, lighting candles and buying fresh flowers in the hope that they could make the air cleaner), I couldn't get rid of that heaviness.

Subsequently, I had an "idea" (which is really guidance from the Divine) to start researching the art of smudging. Just so you know, smudging is an ancient technique of cleansing and refreshing energy (whether the energy of an area, a person, or whatever). If you go to healing places or places where the occupier is spiritual, chances are you might get a whiff of something that smells like incense. My crystal healer smudges her place at the beginning and end of every day in order to remove any negative energies that may have been lingering from her clients that day.

It took me a while to find a new age store that was close enough to me so I ended up with buying a sage smudging stick at Tree of Life at Bondi Junction. Anyways, I went home, lit the smudging stick and then blew it out and went around ensuring that every space in my apartment had been smudged. The day after that, I packed up and went home to my parents and when I came back, the change in the "air" of my place was quite noticeable. I would've thought that my place, having been closed off for almost 2 weeks would have stale air but when I opened the door, but it was fresh as bro!

I'd recommend doing it as often as you feel you have to - not just at the beginning of the year. I suspect some of the heaviness in the air was due to me massaging a number of people in my apartment over the past few months so I hadn't been able to get rid of any lower energies that were lingering from that point. Now I need to figure out when I can get into work with not a lot of people around to smudge my work area hahaha.

Decluttering

I started this decluttering process last week at my parent's place by getting rid of my anime and manga that I'd been hanging on to for at least 10 years and my "spare set of clothes" that had been in the cupboard down there for almost as long. When I did that, I felt a lot lighter which was great, so then started to get itchy feet to come back home so I could do the same process up here.

So, 1 full day later, I have donated 2 bags of "stuff" and have another 4 bags to donate on Monday. You don't realise how much of a hoarder you are until you start consciously going through all your stuff! Here's some of the stuff I decluttered:

  • Clothes - stuff that doesn't fit anymore, stuff that were poor fashion choices (lol) or stuff that I have not worn for the past 1+ year;
  • Shoes - yep those shoes that I kept wearing this year even though they looked a LOT worse for wear, shoes that never fit me and shoes that I simply have never worn;
  • Bags - far out I have a lot of bags. For my 21st bday, my TKD group of friends gave me a really nice leather bag for work. Unfortunately, I never really used it so I dropped it off at the Salvos today (they weren't working so I left it outside and by the time I walked past it again, the bag had gone so obviously someone has stolen it! Hope they get good use out of it).
  • Old pantry items - Ok this is somewhat embarrassing. I had things in there with a used by date of at least a few years ago.......
  • Cleaned my place - yea it needed a vacuum, a good floor wipe and mirror clean!

I've found that every single time I've done a declutter, it has made way for something awesome to come into my life. You know how you never seem to meet the right partner if you haven't fully let go of your previous relationships? It's kind of the same thing. As you know, my last big declutter meant that I was able to suddenly tap into the craniosacral waves and feel energies. My last "minor" declutter allowed me to start trying automatic writing (which I must say is getting better and better each time I practice). What will this declutter bring in? I'm excited to find out!

Re-decorating

Over the Xmas break I decided to get a new bed frame (I've had my one for the past 8 years or so) and also change the mixers in my apartment (i.e. the "taps" of the kitchen sink and the bathroom basin). Why the latter? When my apartment was built, they installed square taps which looked cool, but from a practical perspective, cut my hand because of the sharp corners. Given that dad was coming up when he was taking me home, I took that as an opportunity to get him to change my mixers!

I'm pretty chuffed with my new mixers and glad that I haven't managed to cut myself yet :D I also cannot wait to get my bed frame delivered (in another 2 months or so) and then put that together (I LOVE assembling stuff). I'm hoping that the new bed frame and new colour will change the feel of my bedroom.

The last thing I have done is to get some more indoor plants. Now plants actually are really good to have indoors as they will transmute any negative energy into positive energy and keep your place fresh (unless the place is SATURATED with negative energy). I now have two plants in my bedroom and an orchid in my living room (thanks mum!). Mum's identified another corner of my place that is plant worthy so no doubt she's conjuring up something to go there next time she's up.

One last thing - I had been trying to find a water fountain for my place for a number of months as I like having the sound of running water (as you know, running water can be quite soothing). My lovely friend, who is such a creative soul, put together a water fountain and is giving it to me next week! Yay!!! Now I need to clear the space where I'm going to put the fountain :D

So there you have it! I'd recommend that you use the new year (and quite possibly the last day before you go back to work) to get your home in order for the rest of the year.

Happy decluttering and manifesting everyone! xx
