The "middle age" crisis
One of the messages I received today from a friend of mine was to continue to write. At that time, I was perplexed about what topic to write because I literally had writer's block, but some events during the day have happened which have led me to sit down after a long day out with a berocca in hand and write this post today.
The theme of the post today is "out with the old and in with the new" - and for me it resonates on a lot of levels. I'm at the stage where I start seriously considering those who are my "friends" and the qualities they have, and make the conscious decision to withdraw from them because they no longer are in line with my evolving values. It's not to say that they're not great people, I feel that the friendship we had has run its course and it needs to be let go of in order to move forward.
As you know, I am also at the stage where I'm happy to move away from my current legal career to make way for a new path of being a healer. Being a lawyer worked at the particular point in time but now it no longer suits my values and is no longer fulfilling so it's time to move on... and this seems to not only be happening to me.
In my previous post, I met a guy who was no longer satisfied in his job and making the conscious effort to do something that he was passionate about - coaching. For me this was great to see that there were other people out there who thought like me, and I had made the comment that it seemed like I was "attracting" a lot of people who were in the same boat. Tonight was no exception.
I've been hanging out with a bunch of friends for a while and it had been a number of months since I last properly caught up with some of them. Obviously in those past few months I've had so many different experiences that I have become a different person now to what I was back then. Anyway, today in catching up with some of them, it seemed like they too were at the crossroads in their life in terms of what to do with it. I was so pleased to know that some of them had made the conscious decision to change and realised that life wasn't about the amount of money you earned - it's about doing what you really want to do. Some friends were at the crossroads where I was at months ago trying to figure out what exactly they really wanted to do. My UberX driver on the way home told me he had quit his job of 10 years because it wasn't fulfilling and he was looking to do something that fuelled his passion - he was really happy to see that I agreed with his point of view.. actually, it was as though he was looking for validation as to what he was feeling was right so when I completely agreed with him, it was like the light bulb in his head started flashing erratically (and may I remind you about my messages about synchronicity!).
From a spiritual point of view, we are in the Age of Aquarius, which apparently is the time where East meets West, and a lot more people are becoming open to figuring out who they are and what they believe in. We are born into the world free of judgment and open to everything, and as we grow up, society and people influence our beliefs and it is on these beliefs that we live our lives. It's time we started to be a bit more conscious about this and go back to what we really are like. We can change - we just need to make the decision to do so.
Remember being taught in school that you had to get good marks and get into university because you could only get a decent job if you had a degree? What about the "the thing you study at uni will be your career for life"? Or the "people who question our way of living or thinking are weird so don't associate with them"? On what facts were these "beliefs" made? I'm sure you'd look at those three questions are laugh at how stupid they sound, especially when you have successful entrepreneurs who didn't go to uni, and when we live in a society now where people are expected to have at least 3 careers during their lifetime. Not to mention that those who question things now are considered the smarter ones because how can we progress without these "thinkers" and "philosophers"?
What I'm trying to say is that it is OK to question things - the Age of Aquarius is one in which people question a lot of things to try to get down to the real truth. Past beliefs can be challenged, and in doing so, it opens the pathway to new beliefs. Don't be afraid to throw things out the window - fear is our worst enemy and stops us from moving forward and recognising the potential that we all have - and to build on that, if we allow fear to control our decisions, we are our own worst enemy.
So, the moral of the story is, don't be afraid to challenge things and move forward. Fear is what holds you back - if you are fearful of doing something, take a step back and try to understand why are you feeling like that, and you might be surprised that the underlying belief is complete bollocks!
