A mindfulness meditation brought to you by Deepak Chopra
I have an inkling that the insights that I have learned over my weekend with Deepak Chopra will be the predominant subject over next few posts. At the end of the day, I believe it's important to get as much knowledge out there so that you can make your own decisions about what is your truth and what you believe will improve your own life.
Today I wanted to share a mindfulness meditation that we performed twice over the weekend. The answers that I received during (and after) the meditation were pretty profound, and to me they cemented the fact that I was on the right path.
So here is Deepak's mindfulness meditation:
Today I wanted to share a mindfulness meditation that we performed twice over the weekend. The answers that I received during (and after) the meditation were pretty profound, and to me they cemented the fact that I was on the right path.
So here is Deepak's mindfulness meditation:
- VIPASANA: Sit with your feet on the ground, back erect, close eyes and for about 5 minutes, observe your breath. As you observe your breath, your mind will get distracted, so when you are aware of that, bring back your awareness to your breath.
- SELF REFLECTION: Put your awareness in your heart – self reflection. Ask yourself4 questions: Who am I? SI What do I want? What is my purpose? What am I grateful for? Between each question just wait and notice the thoughts, feelings, emotions, images, sounds that come to you. Then let it go and move onto the next question.
- Repeat your full name – Repeat to yourself "I am First Name Second Name". Allow any images to come to you. This is our image that we have built over our lifetime of experience (i.e. EGO) – adulthood. This is based on time.
- Drop your last name – Repeat to yourself "I am First Name". Allow any images from childhood to come. These are self images. (i.e. EGO) – childhood. This is based on time. Your ego/personality is in time.
- Drop your first name – Repeat “I AM”. This is before the history – before the memory. This is not in time. This is timeless. This is getting closer to your being – true self.
- Repeat “A hum” (Sanskrit for I AM) - again notice whatever comes to you.
- Discard “A hum” and just be. Being is the true self. Being is awareness. Being, awareness and existence are the same thing. They are the true self. Being is also the source of all thought, images, emotions, feeling. This is the space between your thoughts.
- Have 4 intentions: Be aware of the entire body – Have the intention "joyful and energetic body". Then focus on your heart – Have the intention "loving and compassionate heart". Then focus on your third eye – have the intention "reflective and alert mind". Finally, focus on your crown – Have the intention "Lightness of being".
If you do this twice a day. When you do this, you will change your
genes, reset your biological clock, grounding your, reset your bio-field and get lots of sleep. So basically, it's extremely good for you!
Now don't worry if you don't get an answer when you ask any of the questions. There's nothing wrong with that - you will most likely receive your answer during the day so just alert and be aware of what's going on around you - notice it. For example, the second time I did it, I basically received nothing in response to my questions. When I came out of the meditation, I was a bit perplexed... however I realised afterwards that the "nothingness" or "stillness" was actually the answer to the question. I.e. "What am I?" <-- I received nothing. But later it made sense because the state of "nothingness" is essentially the state of "being". Get it?
Try it out!
