Essential oils
I've recently been dabbling in essential oils. From my perspective, something that is natural is better than something that is full of chemicals and I've wanted to see what essential oils were all about.
How did I get into it? I just kind of fell into it I guess. One of the students in my Diploma of Remedial Massage course had studied aromatherapy and used a number of essential oils whilst massaging us in the student clinic. She had also prepared for me an oil blend to help me sleep - the blend didn't really work for me but I was definitely grateful that she let me have a bit of a taste of what essential oils were like.
Around the Xmas break, I was at my parents place and found that a guy named Dr Axe was putting on a free seminar on essential oils. Did you say free? Sign me up! Anyway, suffice to say I came out of that with a list of around 8 oils to get so I promptly headed to Australian Wholesale Oils (who my friend from the diploma referred me to). I received the oils in the mail after Xmas and then didn't do much with them at all apart from placing a few drops of lemon oil in my water and rubbing some lavender and frankincense on my feet.
It wasn't until I signed up for 3 classes regarding essential oils did I start to slowly understand how good these things are. The classes were conducted at the Awareness Institute and run by a lady who is a DoTerra consultant. My bf and I tried some of the oils and very quickly realised how effective they were (not to mention how high vibrational frankincense was... one drop in my mouth was enough to send me to la la land and I had to ground myself quite a bit)! Anyway, suffice to say we ordered the Home Essentials Kit and have been diffusing oils ever since!
You don't have to get DoTerra in order to reap the benefits of essential oils. Just find a reputable and therapeutic grade oil and you're all set. For me, I use a combination of AWO oils and DoTerra oils :) Anyway, here's a couple of things that I've done with the oils:
Freshen up the apartment - Peppermint & Tea Tree Oil
To help ease muscles - Ice Blue & Lemon
Soothing and Calming - Lavender & Frankincense; Lavender, Frankincense & Geranium
Lichen sclerosis - Frankincense & Vitamin E
Vision Improvement - Frankincense
What doesn't work - On Guard mixed with Easy Air. It's disgusting. Just don't do it lol.
I have to say, frankincense is amazing. If there's one oil you need to have, I'd probably say frankincense. There's a lot of articles out there that set out the "claimed" health benefits of frankincense but let me tell you, I had a bad case of lichen sclerosis and I used frankincense and Vitamin E on and off over 3-4 weeks (as well as the steroid cream I was prescribed but I used this really sparingly). I went to the doctor earlier this week and the doctor was impressed at how much the lichen sclerosis cleared up! I mean, it was pretty bad when I went in a few weeks ago and when I went back, it was 95% better! Go frankincense!
Anyway, there's heaps of articles out there on essential oils, the benefits and how you can use it. If it resonates with you, go ahead and try it. Here's a couple of oils I would recommend you start off with if you would like to try:
(As a side note - can you see from this how the Universe conspired to get me into using essential oils??? So random! Thanks Universe!)

- Peppermint
- Tea Tree
- Lemon
