You create your own balance - that's how you can achieve it
Today I had lunch with a dear friend of mine and as usual we end up talking about "spiritual" topics. In terms of "spiritual" however, it's more of the "self improvement" and "change of way of living" rather than the angels, spirits, energy, etc
During our chat, she asked whether I could do a blog post about how I seem to be able to achieve a balance between work, social life and study. It's funny how things appear depending on how it is perceived! To her, I manage to balance my life pretty well. To me, sometimes I feel like I've got way too much on my plate and running around like a mad woman! I.e. too many things to do and so little time!
The only real advice I can give you guys about achieving this "balance" is about setting your boundaries and expectations straight. As we should know by now, we create our own realities. If things seem to be out of balance, it's because we've made it that way (whether that is unconsciously or consciously). All it takes is either a shift in "perception" or a making a particular choice, and then things can just fall into place.
I realise now that I am in the current situation that I am in because I created it. I managed to get myself into a role and a company that allowed me to do basically what I wanted to do, and didn't care as long as I got my work done. The workplace also allowed me to set my expectations quite clearly - I wanted a 9am-5pm job for work life balance and even in a global company I made it clear that I wasn't going to entertain meetings or calls after 6pm unless it was super urgent or it was a call I had to have with executive management. This role also gave me the flexibility to be able to study in order to do my career transition.
Early last year when I made the decision to do it, I put it out there that I wanted to find the right course at the right time, where I could study it part time which didn't affect my work commitments and online for the right price. Very shortly after doing that I enrolled in the course at my current college which ticked all those boxes.
This year, as you know, I put it out there about finding the right college to do my diploma and get qualified in the fastest time possible. That prayer too was answered.
In terms of my studies - once I started studying, my decision was to prioritise it above other things. Obviously friendship and maintaining close relationships is also important, but I figured that those friends who understand me and support me on this new path would get that and somehow things will work out.
Well right now, it is working out - I still manage to get my work done, get my studies done, catch up with my friends, do my housework and somehow fit in my fitness and down time - i.e. time for just myself. That said, my calendar is still pretty much insane, but I realise I have the power to say no and the power to change it, so right now, I'm cool with it.
So that's how I achieve my "balance". How about you?
